SC2: Beta Basement Tournament

If you want to talk about it we want to read about it.

SC2: Beta Basement Tournament

Postby HasHasu » Thu Apr 08, 2010 4:54 pm

[UPDATE] In addition to the tournament, there will be some extra accounts available for free play during the LAN. Tournament play will not require that you have the SC2 beta installed on your computer, but free play most likely will. See details at the bottom of this post regarding how to obtain the client. [/UPDATE]

As mentioned in the past, I will be hosting an unofficial SC2 beta tournament at the basement LAN. Here are the tentative details:

MOST IMPORTANTLY: There will be several (at least 2) computers available for anyone to use during the tournament, meaning anyone can play in the tournament even if they don't have the game.

Disclaimer: Because the game is still going through heavy beta testing, the timing and existence of this tournament is dependent on Blizzard servers being up.

When: Saturday, April 17. 3PM-ish
Where: At the Basement LAN
Prize: $25 cash

Format: Double Elimination, one game per round. Finals are Bo3 with loser bracket finalist down a game. Sign-ups will be held at the LAN, most likely using pen+paper.

Since this is a casual tournament design for many who haven't gotten a chance to play yet, I won't be participating in this tournament, and I've refrained from inviting the competitive SC'ers I know in the area. For the same reason, all games will be played on the map Lost Temple. If you've ever played Starcraft or Warcraft 3 you should be familiar with this one :)

Please feel free to let me know here or via PM if you have any questions or suggestions!

UPDATE:You can download the beta client here: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5371903/Starcraft_2_Beta_Client_US_Build_13891. The only difference between that torrent and the normal Blizzard download is that it's about ten times faster because the Blizzard P2P crap is abosolute crap. Please note that this is a client only, and like a WoW client it's useless without an account to log into.

Additionally, having this client installed will allow you to play in the tournament from your own computer, instead of using a computer/setup you're not used to. I'll also try to share the installer at the LAN.

UPDATE: A friend of mine will have several spare accounts available at some point for free play during the LAN. If you don't have the beta but would like to participate in SC2 free play, you can download the beta client here: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5371903/Starcraft_2_Beta_Client_US_Build_13891.
