Criteria for members \"wearing\" the [SLP] Tag?

Postby wingnut » Thu Feb 22, 2007 10:04 pm

Lets discuss what new members should have to fulfil in order to wear the [SLP] tag in front of thier name.

Things we should think about:

1) how many posts should a person have before they are allowed to wear the tag? I am thinking around 20 or so. We dont want to have a bunch of people that join, make 5 posts and then wear the tag and never come back to the forum or anything so I think a requirement of this form would be a good idea. My suggestion would be that once a person reaches 20 posts that they be appointed a full fledged member by the admin staff (currently assassin and I, but as we grow it will too). At which point they will display the tag in front of thier name.

2) I would also suggest that if a user is inactive for a certain period of time (a couple months or something) that their \"tag displaying privileges\" be revoked temporarily untill thier activity increases.

Other than those two things I dont really see any reason for making it any more complicated than that. We are definately not a dictatorship here so I want to hear everyones input on what you guys think. We want this to be something that people are proud to be a member of, and wearing your clan or group tag proudly is a great thing to do.

So...shout it out, what do you guys think?

20 is a little high for just being able to wear the tags -- maybe 10. Especially since there isn't a whole lot to discuss (unless you troll forums, which just isn't fun).

I like the inactive idea.

While I don't have much time to play FEAR (this semester is kicking my ass) I'll definitely be around the forums. If you need web site help feel free to ask.

And if they get to 20 (or 10) they shouldn't get full-fledged admin powers -- that should DEFINITELY be regulated to a select few (there have been plenty of problems in eX with the wrong people having too much power. Maybe four max admins.

I like your suggestion, and I think that is appropriate. What does everyone else think?

Oh yeah for sure...Ass (short for assassin, hehe) and I will be the only two \"admins\" however as we get more members and get busier we will be appointing moderators, those mods will be hand chosen and permissions handed out carefully :)

Thanks for your input!

For the love of anything worth being loved: limit admin...

Oh, and, perhaps instead of post count, level of involvement not only on the forums but on the servers? Maybe push people to make an effort? Although yes, school is more important, 100% of our time is NOT spent on school...(even though it should be...HAH.)

Yeah that is not a bad idea. As we saw last night, Ass and Cheez-it joined the FEAR server and 5 minutes later there were like 5 other internet players in there. So our servers are making it to the tops of peoples list we just gotta get people in them to make people want to join :)

errr, it may be slightly more (I didn't get mine until 41, and I think there's a recruit around here with 60-some) depending on how frequently you post or how long you've been a recruit. It's unlikely he'll send you that PM if you join one day and then post 30-40 posts in a day...but that'd just be what I'd do. Be patient, membership will come if you stay an active participant. It's really just a bit of a filter for the fair-weather posters (those who would post a few times for membership benefits then leave).

Thanks guys for filling in the blanks, I purposely left this alone knowing some members would expound on this and ya hit the nail on the head.

SLP "Members" are those that wish to be more involved in the "slp community" than just showing up to lan events. These things are being involved in discussions on our forums, extra curricular activities with SLP, being on xfire regularly as most members are generally in comm with each other on a regular basis to play games etc... For those we give perks and bonuses both on the forums at events etc.

Anyway, I think you get the idea from what these guys said :)

Dont take not being offered membership the second you hit 20 posts as that we dont like you, we like you a lot but if we gave it to everyone who came and made 20 posts over the time span of 10 months (thats a rate of 2 per month...doesnt sound all THAT involved, hehe ... Joined: Mon Jan 28, 2008 10:52 pm) then it wouldnt mean much.

xfire uses 13000 kbs of memory. if you cant run xfire you certainly cant run games
